Policy Committee Jurisdiction

The Policy Committee is responsible for drafting all policies for the ConVal School District and SAU 1, and for bringing those policies forward for formal adoption by the full School Board. Policies to be brought forward can be identified in many ways, including but not limited to: scheduled reviews; state or federal mandates requiring policy changes or new policies; identified errors or deficiencies in existing policies; or situations that highlight gaps in guidance where new policies are needed.

Policy drafts may originate from the SAU, the New Hampshire School Boards Association (NHSBA), other policy organizations, or the Policy Committee itself. Once drafted, policies are reviewed by the committee and may be shared with relevant stakeholders—including staff subject matter experts, legal counsel, or external agencies (such as insurance providers)—for feedback as needed.

Following this review process, revised drafts are submitted to the full School Board for a first and second read, each allowing for discussion and potential modifications. A final vote is then taken by the Board for formal adoption.

The Policy Committee typically meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Meetings are open to the public. Meeting agendas and minutes can be found on the School Board’s section of the District’s website.
